There he was. The most annoying guy from my high school. Over 6 years later. Except he was kind of hot now. So I swiped right and messaged him. “You went to Trinity South, right?”

The chances of matching with someone when you can clearly see you have something in common increase exponentially.

He responded immediately, “no way, did you too?” First of all, how do men always respond like they don’t remember you? I’ve looked the same for the last 10 years. But there you have it, a point of connection. The chances of matching with someone when you can clearly see you have something in common increase ten-fold.

Give me something I can use to add fuel to this conversational fire.

It’s way easier beginning a conversation with people when you can find something to talk to them about effortlessly. Have you ever found an old friend on a dating app, screen-shotted their profile and sent it to them? It’s easier to talk to people we have something in common with, but it’s even easier to talk to someone we already know.

Recently, I was talking to a friend who was dreading going back on dating apps. It seems like the only way to meet someone nowadays. She called it a chore to talk to new people. Frankly, she’s right. Sifting through endless ambiguous profiles with just a couple pictures that are supposed to give you a good “picture” of what to expect when you meet a person is a chore.

All of us trying to start a conversation from nothing

If you’re reading this, it’s not too late. FILL OUT YOUR PROFILE. Add the things that are important to you. Hint that you have some cool stories to tell. While you’re at it, put some deal breakers in there too. Give me something I can use to add fuel to this conversational fire.

I understand a lot of people go on dating apps out of sheer boredom. I’ve been guilty of this too. But, if you’re gonna waste your time you might as well waste it well. Meet some cool people. Connect on a deeper level. Maybe find the love of your life who also loves jalapeño ice cream. Sure, this person doesn’t exist, but a girl can dream.

Me (JK this is fiction)
